Are you an actor, dancer, singer or musician? Strike Anywhere invites you to be a performer in POP UP: An Artistic Adventure's "ephemeral choir." You'll workshop with the company to learn Soundpainting, a form of live composition and improvisation, and perform in the POP UP finale.

Soundpainting is a universal sign language comprising over 1500 signs that allows a group of artists to improvise together in real-time. The technique was created by New York composer Walter Thompson during the late 1970s for jazz musicians. It has since evolved into a multidisciplinary language that is practiced worldwide.

Actors, dancers, singers, and musicians of all experience levels ages 12 and up are welcome. Participate using the artform of your choice: If you're an actor or dancer, wear comfortable clothing you can move in. If you're a musician, bring your instrument. And singers, be prepared to sing!

In order to perform in the show, participants must attend the following:

  • BOTH Soundpainting workshops on Monday, September 27th & Wednesday, September 29th from 6-8pm.
  • Performances at 1 pm and 5 pm on Saturday, October 2nd and Sunday, October 3rd (four performances total). Each performance is 1 hour and 45 minutes long and involves 1.5 miles total of light walking. Performers are encouraged to participate in all four shows or pick one day of two shows (either Saturday or Sunday). We will ask you to arrive 1 hour before the start of each performance day for warmups.
