Dartmouth’s United Way Steering Committee has announced that the 2011 Dartmouth United Way campaign raised a record $282,000.

That figure exceeds both the $250,000 goal set for 2011 and last year’s campaign achievement of $262,000. Nearly 600 donors contributed to the 2011 fundraising drive, another record outcome.

Dartmouth runs the third largest United Way campaign in the state of New Hampshire. Gifts to the United Way help local organizations provide services in the areas of education and lifelong learning, physical and mental health and wellness, and housing and economic self-sufficiency. Last year, one in three Upper Valley residents used the services of a United Way partner agency. One such program is Upper Valley Strong, a long-term committee dedicated to supporting disaster recovery efforts in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene.

The campus campaign launched November 15, 2011, led by a steering committee and a team of Dartmouth volunteer coordinators. On November 18, a group of anonymous donors, including current employees of the College, launched an unprecedented $85,000 United Way Matching Grant Challenge for all gifts made to the campaign between November 15 and December 15. Any gift or pledge made to United Way during that time period was matched by 100 percent.
