Assistant Professor of Government Jennifer Lind told the New Atlanticist that the United States should see Kim Jong-un’s rise to power as an opportunity.

“It’s always good to have the hope that maybe this guy might choose to rule North Korea in a different way than we’ve seen under his father,” she said.

But Lind said the new leader could just as easily decide to replicate the techniques his father, the late Kim Jong-il, used to keep the family in power.
