An article by The New York Times notes that the Hood’s collection has grown significantly since the museum opened in 1985 and that it now has more than 70,000 works. The article explains that the expansion and renovation project will include a new entrance for the museum and will increase gallery and classroom space.

The Hood’s expansion and renovation project is a component of Dartmouth’s new Arts District, which, as The New York Times points out, includes the Hopkins Center for the Arts and the new Black Family Visual Arts Center. The article lists the American Folk Art Museum and the Phoenix Art Museum as projects that Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects have previously worked on.
