Britain won 47 medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but competing on its home soil could contribute to a higher medal count this summer. “The host effect is typically an important determinant of total and gold medal counts,” explained Williams in The Washington Post article.

According to the article, the study has predicted that the United States will top the medal charts with 103, followed by China with 94.
