Dartmouth Now takes note when faculty members weigh in on issues of the day. Here is today’s “Quoted”:

“Episode for episode, youth who saw negative characters smoking were more likely to start smoking, but since overall there is so much more exposure to ‘good guy’ smoking, the net effect is similar,” says the Geisel School of Medicine’s Susanne Tanski in a Medical Daily story about anti-smoking ads that picture celebrities smoking when not acting. Tanski was lead author of a study on smoking on the big screen and the effect it has on young moviegoers.

Tanski is an associate professor of pediatrics at Geisel.
