“The template is simple: When the West rises for so-called ‘Western values’—for various freedoms, that is—it inevitably gets more solidarity, attention, and validation than any other part of the world trying to do the same,” writes Yuliya Komska, an assistant professor of German studies, in a Pacific Standard opinion piece about the unequal attention given to world events.
