“We found that people who live next to lakes with persistent cyanobacterial blooms have up to a 25-fold increased chance of developing ALS. These results have been of deep concern to me and my colleagues,” says the Geisel School of Medicine’s Elijah Stommel in a WMUR story about a study he, his Geisel colleague Tracie Caller, and colleagues at the University of New Hampshire conducted on the bacteria, also known as blue-green algae.

At Geisel, Caller is an adjunct instructor in neurology and Stommel is a professor of neurology.
