A 4,000-pound balsam fir now stands at the center of the Green. It was lit on Friday night as a part of Hanover’s “Celebrate the Season” event. The tree came from D’Aiello’s Christmas Tree Farm in Canaan, Vt., and in this video Sage D’Aiello gives a behind-the-scenes look at his family’s farm and talks about the process of choosing a tree for Dartmouth’s prominent Christmas display.

The farm’s father-and-son team spend the month of December selling their trees at a market in Long Island, N.Y., as well as to Dartmouth and a few other more local customers. On their way home, the two make a quick detour off Interstate 91 to drive around the Green so they can see the tree they grew standing tall, and lighting up the night.
