Smart devices such as the Amazon Echo or Google Home have become increasingly popular for their convenience, home-management assistance, and security options. However, these devices have also been a cause of concern. David Kotz ’86, the Pat and John Rosenwald Professor of Computer Science, discusses the privacy risks that come with having smart technology in your home.

“If you’re thinking about installing smart home technology, make sure you think about all of the people who reside in your home and who might visit your home,” says Kotz. “All of those people have privacy interests of their own. So, think carefully about how, where, and what you deploy, and who might be impacted by that technology.”
