The associate professor explains the carbon footprint of agriculture.

As one of the major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, the agriculture industry is an important part of climate change mitigation, says Jonathan Winter, an associate professor of geography. In this video, he discusses the causes of agriculture emissions and what can be done to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.

“Thirty to 40% of the food that we grow is wasted,” say Winter. “In developed countries like the United States, this food waste disproportionately occurs at the consumer end. It occurs in our refrigerators, it occurs in our restaurants, and in our supermarkets.”
