Diwali Brings Sparkle to the Green

News subtitle

The Dartmouth community celebrates the Hindu festival of light.

Every fall, Hindu people around the world celebrate Diwali, a festival of lights. At the heart of the celebration is the lighting of lamps, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Dartmouth’s celebration this year, held on Oct. 31, was organized by the Hindu student group, Shanti, and included a service, or puja, outside Rollins Chapel, cultural performances, a vegetarian feast, and the lighting of hundreds of candles and sparklers on the Green. The photos were taken by Office of Communications photo intern Julia Levine ’23.
