As students move into Russo Hall and Fayerweather Hall and site work continues for other new residential halls on West Wheelock Street, construction crews are also making progress on several other projects around campus related to everything from energy efficiency to upgrades at athletics facilities.

Several projects are wrapping up as fall term starts, including:

• The redesign of the Courtyard Café in the Hopkins Center for the Arts, which includes an upgrade to the kitchen’s functionality and improvements to the dining area. Equipment has been installed and the cafe is expected to open on Monday, Sept. 14.
• Energy upgrades to the Lewinstein Athletic Center, such as new hot water radiators that have been installed and solar panels that are being installed on the roof. Lewinstein reopened for regular use on Sept. 1, and construction in limited areas remains ongoing.
• Reconstruction of Tuck Mall, which began in late June and includes rebuilding the roadway and related infrastructure and adjusting curbing and sidewalks to accommodate a new crosswalk configuration. The project will be substantially completed this month.
• At the West Stands at Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field, part of the grassy area and hardscape have been restored; work continues on Crosby Street.
• Architectural renovation and energy upgrades that are part of the energy transition project are substantially complete at Berry Sports Center, as are an addition and renovation at Corey Ford Rugby House.
• Similarly, at Floren Varsity House, the building is open for regular use, with some punch list work, after improvements to the football locker room, equipment room, a classroom, and strength and conditioning spaces.

Ongoing work is also taking place in several locations.

Crosby Street, where workers are installing an underground distribution piping vault at the intersection with East Wheelock Street as part of the conversion to a more efficient hot water distribution system for campus heating and cooling, will remain closed through 2026, with final restoration efforts to follow next year.

At Thompson Arena, home to the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, renovation work continues with the installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The project is on track for substantial completion in October.

And running along East Wheelock Street between the Green and Crosby Street, distribution piping has been buried in areas around Wilson Hall, Reed Hall, Bartlett Hall, Topliff Hall, and New Hampshire Hall, and work is ongoing to improve the landscape and walkways. Construction related to the vault and piping system will extend into next year in areas near Topliff and New Hampshire Hall, with some substantial work taking place next summer.
