Debate to focus on economic issues

Dartmouth College will be an important stop this fall for the Republican presidential candidates when it co-hosts a debate on October 11 with the U.S. economy as the focus. The event will be broadcast nationally and around the globe by Bloomberg Television and streamed online by Washingtonpostlive.com. WBIN in Derry, N.H., will broadcast the debate throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

“We are pleased to host Republican presidential candidates at Dartmouth,” said President Jim Yong Kim. “The debate on the U.S. economy will take on critical issues of national importance and help us all make informed decisions on Election Day.”

“One of the privileges of a Dartmouth education,” Kim added, “is that every four years our students have the opportunity to engage in the democratic process by participating in the first-in-the-nation primary. Dartmouth has a tradition of bringing presidential candidates to campus and we look forward to doing so again this year.”

Dartmouth is a frequent campaign stop for presidential hopefuls, most recently in 2007 when the College partnered with NBC News to host a Democratic primary debate. President Barack Obama, then a candidate, was among the participants.

Dartmouth’s co sponsors for the debate are Bloomberg Television, The Washington Post, and WBIN-TV.
