The Dartmouth Political Union welcomes respected academics and practitioners from peer institutions to discuss the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, and the future of peace in the Middle East.

Panelist Biographies:
Dr. Ussama Makdisi is a Professor of History and Chancellor’s Chair at the University of California, Berkeley, where he teaches Palestinian history and U.S.-Arab relations. He was previously a Professor of History and the first holder of the Arab-American Educational Foundation Chair of Arab Studies at Rice University in Houston.

Dr. Rachel Fish is a Visiting Assistant Professor at George Washington University where she teaches Israeli History and Society. Dr. Fish serves as Special Advisor to The Brandeis University Presidential Initiative to Counter Anti-Semitism in Higher Education and is also an Associate Research Professor at the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies.

Mr. Khaled Elgindy is a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute and has a  background in researching and analyzing Palestinian-Israeli Affairs. Prior to his current role, he served as a fellow in the Foreign Policy program at the Brookings Institution and as an adviser to the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah on permanent status negotiations with Israel from 2004-2009.

Dr. Guy Ziv is an Associate Professor at American University where he teaches courses on U.S. foreign policy, international negotiations, U.S.-Israel relations, and Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking. He appears frequently as a political commentator for major media outlets including CNN and BBC.
