Adapted from Jerome Lawrence's play, this fictionalized account of the famed 1925 "Scopes Monkey Trial" stars Spencer Tracy in a role intended to reflect the personality and beliefs of William Jennings Bryan, while Frederic March's character approximates Clarence Darrow. Bryan and Darrow, formerly close friends, opposed one another at the Scopes trial.
This film's depiction of a conservative community's resistance toward teaching science that conflicts with their views certainly echoes today.
