ASCL Developing Vietnam Fall + Study Abroad Program Information Session
An information session for students interested in applying for the Fall 2025 "Developing Vietnam" Fall + Study Abroad Program, hosted by the Program Director: Prof. Edward Miller.
Students enrolled in Developing Vietnam will explore the vibrant and exciting field of Vietnamese Studies. Our explorations of various aspects of Vietnamese society, culture and politics will be linked by a focus on the theme of development in contemporary Vietnam. We will adopt an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates methods and insights from History, Environmental Studies, and Film and Literary Studies.
The format of this ASCL Study Abroad Program is unique. Students in this program will enroll in two courses: ASCL 70.22, a one-credit course offered in Hanover during the regular fall term (September-November); and ASCL 59.04, a one-credit, three-week intensive course that will take place in Vietnam during the December winterim period (November 30-December 22, 2025). This program is open to students of all majors.
This innovative program is part of Dartmouth's partnership with Fulbright University Vietnam, a new liberal arts university in Ho Chi Minh City. During the fall term, Dartmouth students who participate in this program will work in small teams with students from Fulbright to co-design a research project on a topic related to development in Vietnam. In December, when the Dartmouth students travel to Vietnam, the teams will work together in person to conduct their field research and present their findings to their instructors and classmates.
