Rethinking Film History in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

with Professor Daoxin Li from Peking University

Tuesday, February 24, 2026

4:30-5:30 PM

Loew Auditorium (Visual Arts Center Rm 104)

Prof. Li is the leader of the Chinese Cinematic knowledge system project, an initiative to use modern knowledge management systems to digitally map and understand the vast landscape of Chinese filmmaking and filmmakers. The Peking University Chinese Cinema Knowledge System (CCKS) refers to the university's comprehensive academic framework for studying Chinese film, integrating scholarly research, teaching programs (like summer schools focusing on modern fiction/film), and platforms for sharing knowledge, often using technology for digital humanities, emphasizing both historical context and contemporary issues like AI's impact on filmmaking, with a goal to provide a global, interdisciplinary understanding of Chinese cinema's artistic and cultural significance.

This event is free and open to the public.

This event is generously co-sponsored by the Department of Asian Societies, Cultures, and Languages and The Neukom Institute for Computational Science
