For more than two decades, Hong Hoang built environmental movements in Vietnam, a country where civic space is tightly restricted. In this talk, she shares how she and her organization, CHANGE, used creative communications, positive community engagement, and cross-sector partnerships to advance environmental causes, and what happened when that space closed. Drawing on her arrest, 478 days in prison, and her new life in the United States, she reflects on what it takes to do environmental activism in challenging contexts, and how to keep going.
