Fifty-one Dartmouth women will take the stage on March 3 and March 4 to perform Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues in the Hopkins Center for the Arts’ Moore Theater.
The show is just one facet of the V-Week campaign at Dartmouth, which is designed to raise awareness about violence against women and to fundraise $8,000 to benefit Upper Valley and New Hampshire women’s organizations.

This year marks the College’s tenth annual benefit production of The Vagina Monologues, but it’s the first time the play has been performed in the Hopkins Center. Senior Aviva Lillian serves as the organizer of the V-Day Dartmouth 2010 campaign and director of The Vagina Monologues, along with assistant directors Addie Gorlin ’11 and Marissa Knodel ’09.
Lillian says this year’s campaign is on a much larger scale, with more than 100 men and women joining the V-Team, quadrupling previous student involvement. “The response has been great,” she says. “This is a fantastic opportunity to bring The Vagina Monologues into the mainstream and spread the V-Day message to the entire community.”
V-Week 2010 includes a show by local comedian Cindy Pierce; the first annual Proud to Be a Woman Dinner featuring honorees of the Upper Valley and Dartmouth communities; a film series aimed at raising awareness about violence against women; and a fraternity-hosted all-campus discussion, among several other fundraisers.
Charitable donations from V-Day Dartmouth will go to the Upper Valley’s women’s resource center WISE, the local free legal services firm Have Justice Will Travel, the Rape and Domestic Violence Center in Concord, N.H., the national Students Acting For Ending Rape (SAFER) organization, and A Safe Place, a crisis center in Portsmouth, N.H.
V-Day Dartmouth is part of the global V-Day movement to end violence against women and girls.
