From left, Katie Powers, a graduate student in Psychological and Brain Sciences, and Sophie Palitz ’13 conduct research alongside Dartmouth faculty.
When Sophie Palitz ’13 conducted research alongside Lincoln Filene Professor in Human Relations Todd Heatherton, she experienced a unique quality of Dartmouth College: the vast opportunities for undergraduates to work directly with distinguished faculty and utilize rare tools.
For the study “Neural Responses to Anticipated Social Isolation,” Palitz and graduate student Katie Powers used the College’s 3.0 T Philips MRI machine to document 40 individuals’ responses to negative social information. Heatherton co-authored the study with Professor Catherine Norris.
