Daryl and Steven Roth will create two distinguished professorships and a prestigious academic fellowship with a $15 million gift. They are joined in their support of Dartmouth’s faculty by their daughter Amanda Roth Salzhauer ’93, son-in law Michael Salzhauer ’84, and son Jordan Roth, Princeton ’97. Steven Roth is a member of the Dartmouth Class of 1962 and earned a degree from the Tuck School of Business in 1963.
The Roth Family Distinguished Professorship in the Arts & Sciences and the Roth Family Distinguished Professorship at Tuck School of Business will be awarded to faculty whose path-breaking work transcends disciplinary boundaries and is significant on a national or international scale. The professorships are intended to recruit or retain faculty who are regarded as profound intellectual voices of their era. These exceptional scholars will produce groundbreaking work and maintain a public presence that renders them luminaries in the marketplace of ideas.
The Roth Family Fellowship in the Arts & Sciences is intended to be one of the most competitive opportunities in academia. It will make available to the Dean of Faculty $250,000 annually to bring a Distinguished Visiting Scholar to Dartmouth each year to enrich the academic community.

Speaking for his family, Steven Roth said, “It is our hope that these professorships and this fellowship will allow the recruitment and retention of the very best scholars and teachers—those rare individuals who have the ability to inspire our students, to transform Dartmouth, and to change the world.”
Steven Roth is chairman of Vornado Realty Trust, one of the largest owners and managers of commercial real estate in the United States. Named by Barron’s as one of the “World’s Thirty Most Respected CEOs” three years in a row, Roth is the co-founder and managing general partner of Interstate Properties and chairman and chief executive officer of Alexander’s, Inc. He is vice chairman of the board of the Intrepid Museum Foundation and has served on the boards of New York University School of Medicine Foundation, Horace Mann School, the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. A driving force behind the creation of the Roth Center for Jewish Life at Dartmouth, he has served as a member of the Tuck Board of Overseers, the Dartmouth Alumni Council, and the President’s Leadership Council. He became a member of the Dartmouth Board of Trustees in 2008 and is chair of the Finance Committee.
Daryl Roth is proud to hold the singular distinction of producing six Pulitzer Prize-winning plays: Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County; David Auburn’s Proof;Margaret Edson’s Wit;Paula Vogel’s How I Learned to Drive;Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women;and Nilo Cruz’s Anna in the Tropics. She has been profiled in The New Yorker and included in Crain’s 2001 “100 Most Influential Women in Business.” She received NYU’s inaugural Tisch School of the Arts Award for Artistic Leadership and has served on the boards of directors of the Lincoln Center Theater, the Sundance Institute, the LAByrinth Theater Company, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She has produced over 70 plays both on and off-Broadway.
Amanda Salzhauer graduated from Dartmouth in 1993 with a degree in art history and went on to earn a Masters in Social Work from NYU in 1998. She has served as a Dartmouth College Fund volunteer and chair of the alumni board of Dartmouth Hillel. She is married to Michael Salzhauer, a 1984 Dartmouth graduate and a partner at Benjamin Partners, a real estate and investment firm. Michael has also been active as a Dartmouth College Fund volunteer and a class officer. Jordan Roth is the president of Jujamcyn Theaters, which owns and operates a chain of Broadway theaters. He is a 1997 graduate of Princeton and received his MBA from Columbia Business School in 2010. Jordan’s partner, Richie Jackson, is the president of Jackson Group Entertainment, a producing and management firm.
The commitment of the Roth family addresses a major priority in the recently concluded $1.3 billion Campaign for the Dartmouth Experience, the largest fundraising effort in Dartmouth history. Dartmouth is a private, coeducational college and a member of the Ivy League.
