Gaming the Archives (Chronicle of Higher Education)

A team of designers and archivists at Dartmouth has created game interfaces for image tagging called MetaData Games. An initial test in which players assigned the short category labels known as “tags” to a small number of images went well. There also was much interest when Mary Flanagan, the Sherman Fairchild Distinguished Professor in Digital Humanities, and College Archivist Peter Carini presented the game at a New England Archivists’ meeting. Next steps include further analysis and sharing of the pilot project’s results and finding funding to support the next round of development.
