Michael Arad ’91 was an unknown city architect when his design for a September 11 memorial was selected out of 5,201 entries in the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition, reports Associated Press.
His design, called “Reflecting Absence,”creates reflecting pools in the footprints of the original towers, with waterfalls cascading into them.
After his proposal was chosen, Arad became a public figure and began an odyssey which will be completed next month on the 10th anniversary of the attacks, when the memorial will open to the public.
