Engineering students at Dartmouth have created a device to help fire fighters accurately guide ladders to windows, which could save time and manpower in an emergency.

Their creation—a tiny monitor that allows fire truck operators to see the exact location of their ladders—eliminates the need for another firefighter to stand beside the ladder and yell instructions.

It also helps the truck operators work efficiently in an environment that is almost inevitably filled with smoke and noise, said Noam Rosenthal ’13.
