Dartmouth President Hopes to Apply Public-Health Lessons From Rwanda and Peru to Binge Drinking (The Chronicle of Higher Education)

As the 32-member Learning Collaborative on High-Risk Drinking convenes in Austin, Texas, this week for its second meeting, the Chronicle of Higher Education interviewed President Jim Yong Kim about the project.

On the assembly’s agenda: continuing to address binge drinking on college campuses, which Kim calls “the most difficult problem I’ve taken on yet.” He continues: “Knowing what we know about the number of deaths, injuries, and sexual assaults, and knowing what we know about the impact on the developing brain, we have no choice.”

The collaborative meets next in June at Dartmouth. Kim notes in the interview that the group expects to publish its findings following that final gathering.
