The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a best-selling novel based on William Kamkwamba ’14, has now been turned into a children’s book.

Kamkwamba worked with former Associated Press reporter Bryan Mealer to write the story, as he did for the original adult version.

“I hope the book will encourage [children] with their studies and their passions—and teach them never to give up,” said the 24-year-old Malawi native.

Both books tell the story of how Kamkwamba, at age 14, built a windmill from spare parts to help his small African town survive a famine.
