Professor of Native American Studies Bruce Duthu Honored as Journal Editor

The Spring 2011 issue of the South Atlantic Quarterly co-edited by Samson Occom Professor of Native American Studies Bruce Duthu has been honored by the Council of Editors of Learned Journals with the group’s 2011 Best Special Issue Award. The award was presented at the 2012 annual meeting of the Modern Language Association held earlier this month in Seattle.

Duthu edited the issue “Sovereignty, Indigeneity, and the Law” with Eric Cheyfitz of Cornell University and Shari Huhndorf  of the University of California—Berkeley.

Duthu, who is also the chair of the Native American Studies program, is a member of the Dartmouth Class of 1980. The author of American Indians and the Law, Duthu is an internationally recognized scholar of Native American law and policy.
