Legendary musician Hugh Masekela comes to the Hopkins Center’s Spaulding Auditorium on Tuesday, February 21, at 7 p.m., for a concert with his band of rhythm section and vocalists. For more than five decades, Masekela has been a singularly gorgeous voice on the trumpet and flugelhorn, an Afro-jazz pioneer, an international hit-maker, and a fiery spokesman for South African cultural pride and self-determination.
While at Dartmouth, Masekela will also discuss his decades of political activism in “The Artist’s Role as Activist,” an interview with Jonathan Crewe, Leon D. Black Professor in Shakespearean Studies, and professor of English and of comparative literature. That conversation takes place Monday, February 20, at 6:30 p.m., in Filene Auditorium, Moore Hall.
