Anise Vance ’11 is a member of the George J. Mitchell Scholars class of 2012—a post-graduate program sponsored by the U.S.-Ireland Alliance that aims to connect future American leaders with Ireland, as well as strengthen ties between the two countries.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Vance, who is pursuing an MA in geography at Queen’s University Belfast, notes that he plans on earning a PhD and working in conflict resolution upon his return to the United States. During his time in Northern Ireland, he is learning about the country’s focus on providing shared spaces within communities.

Vance told the BBC, "There’s no talk about creating a shared space for communities that maybe are divided by other barriers. So I think that consciousness is really something that needs to be drawn on and used in the U.S.”
