A PBS NOVA program entitled “Cracking Your Genetic Code” examines the evolving technology and research surrounding genetics and gene-based medicine.

Ronald M. Green, the Eunice and Julian Cohen Professor for the Study of Ethics and Human Values at Dartmouth, took part in the film’s consideration of the implications of advances being made in genetics.

Green, who has also served as the director of Dartmouth’s Ethics Institute, spoke to PBS about the ethical dilemmas associated with an increased awareness of personal gene and DNA make-up. “There has always been a tendency to engage in deterministic genetics and I think scientists, medical people, and educators must make very clear the limits of that point of view,” says Green.

Watch the program, which ran on 3/28/12 on PBS.
