The Dartmouth Wind Symphony encourages the College community to turn off their computers, step away from their desk or study area, and join the ensemble on the front lawn of Baker Library for the 27th annual Study Break Concert. The outdoor performance begins at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 31. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in Rollins Chapel.

Conducted by Matthew Marsit, the Dartmouth Wind Symphony’s Study Break Concert will include a variety of works, including pieces by Gustav Holst, Percy Aldridge Grainger, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and John Philip Sousa. Emily Looney, Geisel ’12, will be the concert’s featured soloist.
“The President’s Study Break Concert offers the Dartmouth Wind Symphony a nice opportunity to share our music with a different community of listeners than those who make their way into Spaulding Auditorium for our main stage concerts throughout the season,” says Marsit.
The Dartmouth Wind Symphony counts 45 select musicians, including students and members of the Hanover and regional community. The ensemble performs a wide variety of wind music from the late 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
The concert is sponsored by the Office of the President and is free and open to the public. For more information please call the Office of Conferences and Special Events at (603) 646-2923.
Following the concert, from 3 to 4 p.m., a community farewell reception for President Kim will take place on Baker Lawn.
