With his stellar college golf career behind him, three-time Ivy League champion and player of the year Peter Williamson ’12 is now making a name for himself on the amateur circuit. He recently won his second major title of the summer and also qualified for his third U.S. Amateur Championship.
After he won the North & South Amateur in North Carolina in early July and the prestigious Southern Amateur Championship on July 21, GolfWeek took note of the Hanover, N.H. native, who Dartmouth Men’s Golf Coach Rich Parker recently called “arguably the best player who ever played in the Ivy League.” Especially since Williamson defeated the country’s top-ranked amateur, Bobby Wyatt, by sinking a 25-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to win the Southern Amateur.
Williamson told GolfWeek after his victory, “This is a huge win for me. I really wanted to prove myself this summer, prove that a guy from Dartmouth could play at the highest level of amateur golf. So far, I think I’ve been doing that.” Read the full story at GolfWeek.com.
On Tuesday, July 24, Williamson earned the low-score medal at the U.S. Amateur qualifying tournament at Charter Oak Country Club in Hudson, Mass. He and former Dartmouth teammate James Pleat ’13, who also qualified, will compete in the U.S. Amateur Championship from August 13-19 in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.
