The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice’s (TDI) Elliott Fisher and H. Gilbert Welch are featured in the PBS Need to Know program entitled “Money and Medicine,” which examines government health care spending and variations in care.

In the PBS program, Fisher, the director of the Center for Population Health at TDI and a professor of community and family medicine at The Geisel School of Medicine, says, “We all come to a similar conclusion that about 30 percent of U.S. health care spending is devoted to unnecessary services. That’s $800 billion a year.”

Watch the program, which ran 9/25/12 on PBS.
