As a guest on Bloomberg Television’s Surveillance, David Blanchflower, the Bruce V. Rauner Professor of Economics at Dartmouth, says that Mark Carney, the Bank of Canada governor, was the best candidate to head the Bank of England. “I think it’s a great appointment,” says Blanchflower of the announcement, which was made November 26.

“I think it’s a change of the guard,” continues Blanchflower, a contributing editor for Bloomberg Television. “It’s a fantastically huge job, but I think this guy is well placed for it. He is going to come in and shake it up with a new broom, and I welcome that.”
