In an opinion piece on The Huffington Post, Andrea Tarnowski, associate professor of French and comparative literature, writes about the December 14, 2012, mass shooting that took the lives of 20 children and six adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

“Our compassion is universal and heartfelt, our condolences deeply sincere,” Tarnowski writes. “But our outrage must be greater.”

She continues, “A society free of gun violence is not a pretty fantasy, it’s a realizable goal. In fact, there are places where it is a realized goal.”
