In a radio interview with The Voice of Russia, Michael Bronski, senior lecturer in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, says he believes the Supreme Court will be cautious about overturning laws that prohibit gay marriage, despite polls showing Americans increasingly approve of gay marriage.

“I think they’re in a very tricky position. I think that popular opinion says one thing,” Bronski says, but “overwhelmingly more than half the states legally ban same sex marriage.”

“It seems to me that the Supreme Court is going to be extraordinarily cautious about overturning laws in 30 states. I think that’s something that, if they did that, that would be extraordinary.”
