In an Associated Press story published by The Boston Globe, Dartmouth’s Tania Convertini says Twitter is a useful tool in teaching foreign languages. The director of Dartmouth’s French and Italian Language Program, Convertini assigns tweets, written in Italian, as part of students’ homework. Twitter, she says, “gives them one more opportunity to interact with each other.”

The assignment begins with a workshop on how to perform Twitter searchs and filter results, the Associated Press reports.

“The moment you start following someone—an organization, a singer, a political group—you receive an incredible quantity of tweets,” she says. “This is really authentic language and culture that it would be hard to expose them to otherwise.”
