When Rachel Dratch ’88 makes her Shakespeare in the Park debut this week, it won’t be her first role in one of the Bard’s plays. The Saturday Night Live alumna played one of the Rude Mechanicals in a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream when she was an undergraduate at Dartmouth, notes the New York Daily News.

Dratch has the supporting role of the scholar Holofernes in a new musical take on Love’s Labour’s Lost, opening Tuesday, July 23, in New York City’s Central Park, the Daily News reports.

“Oh my gosh, it’s crazy fun,” Dratch tells the newspaper. “My agent called out of the blue and said that I’d been asked to be in the show.”

Director Alex Timbers tells the Daily News that he wanted “an actor teeming with invention that could help me reinterpret it. Rachel is a comedy iconoclast, known for her creation of strange and indelible characters and her keen improvisation skills.”
