Wired writes about five maps that can “help solve some of the world’s most daunting problems,” highlighting the work of the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care, which documents variations in how medical resources are distributed and used in the United States.

The magazine writes, “By mining and mapping data on Medicare in particular, Dartmouth researchers have shown that the quality and efficiency of medical care varies surprisingly from place to place; the White House and Congress discussed these findings often in their recent debates over health care reform.”
