First-Year Trips are a student-run, five-day orientation for incoming first-year students. Run by the Dartmouth Outing Club since 1935, the Trips—from climbing, yoga, nature photography, and organic farming to nature writing and art—offer incoming students the chance to form new friendships and get to know the rugged countryside of Northern New England.

Those are some of the facts. But there are other ways to talk about the experience, as one sees in a new Dartmouth video about the Trips.

“I would much rather go on an outdoorsy orientation trip than sit in an auditorium, because we really get to know each other, especially with climbing, where we’re supporting each other and we’re there for each other,” says one of the Trippees.
