As an Arctic blast pushes temperatures below zero across several regions of the United States, Jessica Zischke ’16, an editorial intern for Sierra magazine, offers tips on how to stay warm and save money. “Rather than reaching out a hand to turn up the thermostat, try a few of these eco-friendly options to stay toasty,” she writes.

Among Zischke’s tips: “Pile on the layers. … Close the doors and vents in less-used rooms to minimize the amount of energy you use on heating. … Keep the snow monster on the other side of your windows by using extra thick curtains or drapes on your glass panes.”
