The suspense will be over next week when the new Dartmouth Idol winner is crowned at the Hopkins Center’s Spaulding Auditorium.
This year’s competition, the seventh Dartmouth Idol, had the highest-ever number of semi-finalists. Chosen from a group of 30 semi-finalists, the six undergraduates in the finals are Nikhil Arora ’16, Phoebe Bodurtha ’15, Grace Carney ’17, Xavier Curry ’14, Tyné Freeman ’17, and Jamilah Mena ’14. During the performance, each participant will sing one solo, one duet, and one trio. The trio is a new addition to the final contest. Along with a 20-piece band and backup singers, “there will be singing, dancing, videos, and as always, some surprises,” says Cunningham.
The show begins at 8 p.m. on March 7 in Spaulding. The winner will receive a $500 prize, and the opportunity to record a two-song demo. Second place will receive $250, and third place will earn $100. Finalists will be judged on vocal performance, musicality, and stage presence, and the winner will be decided by an audience vote.
