April and May are busy months at Dartmouth, with conferences, symposiums, and performances scheduled across campus. Here is a look at some of the upcoming events.
April 12: Discrete Math Days of the Northeast will be held on Saturday, April 12, 9-5:30 p.m. in Kemeny Hall 008. These meetings take place at universities in the Northeast. Preregistering is strongly encouraged.
April 14: Dartmouth’s First Edible Book Festival will be held, Monday, April 14, 4-6 p.m., Berry Library Main Street. The International Edible Book Festival has been held annually since 2000 in many countries around the world. This year, the festival comes to Dartmouth, where delicious, surprising, bookish foods will be consumed.
April 15: The Second Annual Language Share Fair will be held on Tuesday, April 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning, room 102, in Baker-Berry Library. The day-long series of programs is organized around the theme of experiential learning in language instruction. Presenters will share on topics including learning language through art, storytelling, blogging, and community service, on campus and abroad. Gail Gentes, the wife of President Phil Hanlon ’77, will deliver opening remarks. Preregistering is strongly encouraged.
April 17: A Clothesline Project T-Shirt Decorating event will be held on April 17, 4-6 p.m., in the Center for Gender & Student Engagement (CGSE) lounge. Participants will make T-shirts to support the Clothesline Project. The Clothesline Project began in 1990 and is used to spread awareness about relationship and sexual violence. Survivors, supporters, and all others who care about the issue are invited to come make a T-shirt to be on display the following week in Collis Atrium. The project is just one of Dartmouth’s events in honor of the national Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
April 26-27: The USA Science & Engineering Festival will be held on April 26-27 in Washington, D.C., at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This is a national grassroots effort to advance STEM education and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. A contingent of 28 Dartmouth faculty, staff, and students will represent the College with five exhibits.
