A Look at Some of Dartmouth’s Upcoming Events

May is a busy month at Dartmouth, with conferences, symposiums, and performances scheduled across campus. Dartmouth students’ work is in the spotlight, as well. Here is a look at some of the upcoming events.

May 27: President Phil Hanlon ’77 opens this year’s President’s Undergraduate Research Symposium at 4 p.m. in the Main Hall of Berry Library. Student researchers present their projects in this poster session, which is part of Dartmouth’s month-long celebration of undergraduate research and creativity.

May 28: Radu Sion presents the final session in the series “Surveillance in the Age of Big Data,” co-sponsored by ISTS and the Computer Science Colloquium. He speaks on “Computation Privacy and Regulatory Compliance Mechanisms for the Cloud” at 4:15 p.m. in 006 Steele. Sion is an associate professor of computer science at Stony Brook University (on leave) and the CEO of Private Machines Inc.

May 28-31: The Leslie Center for the Humanities and the Department of Philosophy invite the community to the 45th annual meeting of the Husserl Circle, an international gathering of scholars of phenomenology. Conference sessions for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, May 28-31, take place in Haldeman 041 beginning at 9 a.m. each day. A related exhibit runs through June 2 in Berry Main Street of Baker-Berry Library; catch it before it closes.

May 29: Senior Fellow Rena Sapon-White ’14 presents her thesis project, Paradisus: The Thousandth Year, a feature documentary film on Jewish identity in Poland today. A question-and-answer session with Sapon-White about her film follows the screening, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Loew Auditorium of the Black Family Visual Arts Center

May 30: Students, community members, and Dartmouth staff have been busy all term in the Book Arts Workshop. Come see their letterpress, bookbinding, and other projects at an exhibit and reception starting at 5:30 p.m. in Baker Library’s Treasure Room.

May 30-31: Theater major Camille Van Putten ’14 presents a solo performance piece, (A)sides, at 8 p.m. on May 30 and May 31 in the Hopkins Center’s Bentley Theater. A post-show discussion follows each night.
