In a New York Times Upshot blog, Assistant Professor of Government Brendan Nyhan writes that while the Ebola virus is a smaller threat to Americans than the common flu, some politicians are exaggerating the Ebola danger and using it to attack President Obama and Democratic candidates.

“This political attention may be contributing to the shift in public focus toward Ebola and away from more significant health threats like the flu,” writes Nyhan.
