A study led by Samir Soneji of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI) indicates that teens who use a hookah are more likely to become cigarette smokers, reports U.S. News & World Report. The study found a similar effect among teens who use snus, a type of smokeless tobacco, the magazine reports. “Yet, water pipe tobacco remains largely unregulated by the FDA, and snus is less regulated than other smokeless tobacco,” the researchers wrote in the Dec. 8 online edition of the journal JAMA Pediatrics, the magazine reports.
