“The fracas deepened divisions and reopened old wounds without advancing one whit the national debate over the use of torture as an instrument against terrorism,” says Daniel Benjamin, director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding, in a Politico opinion piece about the controversy over the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on the CIA’s use of torture.
