The eighth winner of the popular Dartmouth Idol contest will be crowned on March 6. Winners of the annual competition have gone on to sing with the country duo Sugarland and appear on NBC’s The Sing-Off.
Competing in this year’s event are Audrey Djiya ’17, Tara Joshi ’18, Charli Fool Bear-Vetter ’15, Danielle Piacentile ’17, Danny Rogers ’15, and Chris Yih ’17.
Auditions took place Jan. 25, and those who made the cut at auditions went on to the semi-finals on Feb.3. In this karaoke-style sing-off, contestants vied for a slot in the final round, and six finalists were selected to go on to the Dartmouth Idol Finals at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 6, in Spaulding Auditorium at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
Dartmouth Idol is overseen by Walt Cunningham, the artistic director of the Dartmouth College Gospel Choir. Contestants receive voice and performance coaching before the show and are accompanied by a 10-piece band led by Cunningham.
