“He was still focused on carrying out that catastrophic attack against the United States that would ultimately spell the downfall of the despots,” says Dartmouth’s Daniel Benjamin in a Bloomberg Business story about the documents released this week that reveal how focused Bin Laden was on terrorism directed against the U.S. and other Western targets. The documents were discovered at the hideout in northeastern Pakistan where the Al-Qaida leader was killed in 2011.
Benjamin, director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding, says Bin Laden was “really focused on those attacks that were going to essentially cause a pivot in history. He seemed to never have lost faith in that approach.”
